Requirements by Operation Type

Private flights require overflight and landing permits. Standard 48-hour lead time applies.

Prior permission required for all non-scheduled flights including charter, cargo, and ad-hoc operations. Minimum 48 working hours lead time.

Scheduled services operate under bilateral air service agreements. No additional overflight permit required for scheduled operators with valid traffic rights.

Overflight Permit

  • Lead Time: Minimum 48 working hours before departure; 2 weeks for state/military aircraft
  • Validity: +24 hours from initial requested schedule
  • Fees: No CAA processing fees; air navigation charges invoiced separately based on route navigation facility usage
Remarks:

Aircraft from ICAO contracting states that are signatories to the International Air Transit Agreement may overfly without specific overflight permission. Non-scheduled and charter flights require prior permission.

Application Process:

Submit application to Air Transport Department at least 48 working hours prior to departure. Include flight schedule, entry/exit points, ATC route, and aircraft documents. Permit number must be inserted in Item 18 of the flight plan.

Landing Permit

  • Authority: Civil Aviation Affairs - Air Transport Department
  • Lead Time: Minimum 48 working hours; 2 weeks for state/military aircraft
  • Validity: +24 hours from initial requested schedule
  • Fees: Landing and parking fees apply; air navigation charges invoiced to operator
Remarks:

All non-scheduled commercial flights require prior landing permission. Operating hours 0400Z to 1100Z.

Application Process:

Submit application with flight schedule, entry/exit points, crew details, passenger manifest, and aircraft documents (AOC, COA, COI, COR) to the Air Transport Department.

Cabotage

Not permitted for foreign operators

Bahrain FIR is relatively small. CAA operating hours are 0400Z to 1100Z. Israeli-registered aircraft restrictions may apply.
