VFR

VFR (Visual Flight Rules) are regulations that allow pilots to fly by visual reference to the ground and horizon, without relying solely on instruments. VFR flight requires minimum visibility and distance from clouds (VMC conditions) that vary by airspace class and altitude.

Under VFR, the pilot is primarily responsible for see-and-avoid separation from other aircraft. In most countries, VFR flight is not permitted above FL200 (20,000 ft) or in Class A airspace. VFR flights may be conducted "VFR on top" above clouds if the required visibility above the cloud layer is maintained.
