Stopway

Stopway is a defined rectangular surface beyond the end of a runway, prepared and designated as a suitable area for an aircraft to decelerate in the event of an abandoned takeoff. The stopway is included in the Accelerate-Stop Distance Available (ASDA) calculation.

Stopways must be able to support the aircraft weight without causing structural damage, but they are not required to meet the full pavement strength standards of the runway itself.
