Rapid Exit Taxiway

Rapid Exit Taxiway (RET) is a taxiway connected to the runway at a shallow angle (typically 30°), allowing landing aircraft to exit the runway at a higher speed than a standard 90° taxiway. This reduces runway occupancy time and increases airport capacity.

  • Design speed: 60–65 knots (vs. 15–20 knots for standard exits)
  • Reduces runway occupancy time by 30–50%
  • Positioned based on typical touchdown point and deceleration profile for the runway
  • Also called high-speed turnoff or high-speed exit
  • Critical for maintaining landing rates at busy airports
