PIC

PIC (Pilot In Command) is the pilot designated as having final authority and responsibility for the operation and safety of the flight. The PIC has the authority to deviate from any rule or clearance to the extent necessary to meet an emergency.

In multi-crew operations, the PIC may or may not be the pilot physically flying the aircraft (PF - Pilot Flying vs PM - Pilot Monitoring). The PIC is responsible for preflight planning, go/no-go decisions, and all aspects of the flight.
