LNAV

LNAV (Lateral Navigation) refers to guidance along the horizontal plane of a defined flight path. LNAV is provided by the FMS/GPS and steers the aircraft along airways, SIDs, STARs, and approach procedures.

LNAV approaches (without vertical guidance) are classified as non-precision approaches. When combined with VNAV (vertical navigation), the approach provides both lateral and vertical guidance (LPV or LNAV/VNAV approaches).
