FPL
FPL (Flight Plan) is a formal document filed with air traffic services that provides essential information about an intended flight. Flight plans are required for all IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) flights and for VFR flights crossing international borders or entering certain controlled airspace.
A standard ICAO flight plan (Form 2025) includes:
- Aircraft identification and type
- Flight rules (IFR, VFR, or mixed)
- Departure aerodrome and time
- Route (airways, waypoints, direct)
- Cruising speed and altitude
- Destination aerodrome and alternate(s)
- Endurance (fuel on board) and persons on board
- Emergency equipment information
Flight plans can be filed via online systems (e.g., Eurocontrol NM, FAA ICAO FPL), aviation apps, briefing offices, or directly with ATC. Repetitive Flight Plans (RPLs) are available for scheduled operations.
