Dihedral
Dihedral is the upward angle of the wings relative to the horizontal when viewed from the front of the aircraft. Dihedral provides lateral (roll) stability: when the aircraft is disturbed from level flight by a gust, the lower wing generates more lift due to its increased angle of attack relative to the airflow, automatically leveling the aircraft.
High-wing aircraft may use less dihedral (or even anhedral — downward wing angle) because the high wing position already provides inherent lateral stability. Low-wing aircraft typically have more pronounced dihedral.
