Cockpit Voice Recorder
CVR (Cockpit Voice Recorder) continuously records audio from cockpit microphones, headsets, and the cockpit area microphone. In the event of an accident, the CVR provides investigators with crucial information about crew communications, ATC instructions, engine sounds, and warning alarms.
Modern CVRs record at least 2 hours of audio and are designed to withstand extreme impact forces, fire, and deep-sea pressure. Along with the FDR (Flight Data Recorder), the CVR forms the aircraft "black box" (actually painted orange for visibility).
