Configuration Deviation List

A Configuration Deviation List (CDL) is an approved document that identifies external parts of an aircraft (fairings, panels, access doors, etc.) that may be missing or damaged without affecting airworthiness, subject to specific performance penalties or operational restrictions.

The CDL is part of the aircraft's Type Certificate and is separate from the MEL (Minimum Equipment List), which covers systems and instruments.

  • Each item lists performance impact (e.g., fuel burn increase, speed restriction)
  • Dispatch with CDL items requires crew notification
  • Examples: missing fairing panels, antenna covers, small access doors
  • CDL items must be repaired within specified time limits
