ATIS
ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) is a continuous broadcast of recorded non-control aeronautical information at airports. It provides arriving and departing pilots with essential data including current weather (wind, visibility, ceiling, temperature, dew point, altimeter setting), active runways, available approaches, NOTAMs, and any other pertinent information.
Each ATIS broadcast is identified by a phonetic letter (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.) which changes with each update, typically every hour or whenever conditions change significantly. Pilots are expected to listen to the current ATIS before contacting ATC, and to confirm the ATIS code they have received.
ATIS is typically broadcast on a dedicated VHF frequency and is also available via D-ATIS (Digital ATIS) through datalink services.
