Anti-Skid

Anti-Skid is a system that prevents the aircraft's wheels from locking up during braking. It works similarly to ABS in automobiles — sensors detect wheel deceleration rates, and the system automatically releases and reapplies brake pressure to maintain optimal braking effectiveness without skidding.

  • Prevents tire blowouts from locked wheels on dry or wet pavement
  • Maintains directional control during braking by preventing asymmetric wheel lock
  • Essential on wet, icy, or contaminated runways
  • Anti-skid failure requires increased landing distances and may restrict operations
  • Works in conjunction with autobrake systems
