A Journey Through Time
1999 — 2019
Shanghai Pudong International Airport opened on 1 October 1999, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the People's Republic. It was built on reclaimed land east of Shanghai.
The Shanghai Maglev Train began service in 2004, connecting Pudong Airport to the city at speeds of 431 km/h — the world's fastest commercial train service and first commercial maglev line.
The Satellite Concourse S1 opened in September 2019, connected to Terminal 1 by an underground tunnel. Pudong became China's busiest international airport, handling 76 million passengers.
