Beijing Capital
A Journey Through Time
1958 — 2019
Beijing Capital International Airport opened on 2 March 1958, becoming the People's Republic of China's first major civil aviation airport and the primary gateway to the capital.
Terminal 3, designed by Norman Foster, opened in February 2008 for the Beijing Olympics. At 986,000 square metres, it was the world's largest airport building and could be seen from space.
Beijing Capital was the world's second-busiest airport with over 100 million passengers, before the opening of Beijing Daxing in 2019 split traffic between the two mega-airports.
