Suvarnabhumi Airport opened on 28 September 2006 after decades of planning, replacing Don Mueang as Bangkok's primary airport. The name means "Golden Land" in Sanskrit.

Designed by Helmut Jahn, the main terminal features the world's tallest control tower (132 metres) and one of the world's largest single-building terminals at 563,000 square metres.

2020s
2023

The Satellite Terminal 1 (SAT-1) opened in 2023, adding 28 gates and increasing annual capacity to 60 million passengers to handle Thailand's post-pandemic tourism boom.
