Safdarjung Airport opened in 1930 as Delhi's first civil aerodrome. Operations later moved to Palam Airport, which was renamed Indira Gandhi International Airport in 1986.

2010s
2010

Terminal 3 opened in July 2010, designed by HOK. At 5.4 million square feet, it was the world's eighth-largest terminal building, handling 34 million passengers from day one.

2020s
2022

Delhi Airport handled over 72 million passengers in 2023, making it the busiest airport in India and one of the top 10 busiest in the world by passenger traffic.
