Jorge Chávez International Airport
A Journey Through Time
1965 — 2025
Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez opened on 30 December 1965 in Callao, replacing the Limatambo airport. It was named after the pioneering Peruvian aviator who first crossed the Alps in 1910.
Lima Airport Partners (LAP), led by Fraport, won the 30-year concession and began modernising the terminal, transforming it into the primary hub for western South America.
A new second terminal and second runway opened in 2025, doubling the airport's capacity to 40 million passengers and establishing Lima as a major South American connecting hub.
