1959

Aeropuerto Internacional El Dorado opened on 10 December 1959, named after the legendary city of gold. Located at 2,548 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest major airports in the Americas.

2010s
2012

A massive modernisation and expansion project was completed in 2012, including a new international terminal designed by Foster + Partners, quadrupling passenger capacity.

2019

El Dorado handled over 35 million passengers in 2019, making it the third-busiest airport in Latin America and the primary hub for Avianca and LATAM Colombia.
