Aeroporto Internacional de Belém/Val-de-Cans opened in 1958, named after Brigadeiro Protásio de Oliveira. It became the primary gateway to the Amazon region.

2000

The airport was renamed Júlio Cezar Ribeiro International Airport and underwent modernisation to support growing ecotourism and cargo operations for the Amazon basin.

Belém Airport underwent major renovations ahead of COP30, the UN Climate Conference scheduled for the city in November 2025, expanding capacity and modernising facilities.
