Ninoy Aquino Intl
A Journey Through Time
1948 — 2014
Manila International Airport opened in 1948, built on the site of a former US military air base. It was later renamed Ninoy Aquino International Airport in 1987 after the assassinated opposition leader.
Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was assassinated on the tarmac of Manila Airport on 21 August 1983 upon his return from exile — an event that catalysed the People Power Revolution.
Terminal 3, built to accommodate the growing Philippine carrier market including Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines, became the country's most modern aviation facility.
