Dubai Intl
A Journey Through Time
1960 — 2014
Dubai International Airport opened in 1960 with a single runway and a small terminal. Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum envisioned it as the cornerstone of Dubais transformation into a global hub.
Terminal 3, the worlds largest building by floor space at the time, opened exclusively for Emirates airline operations, featuring 220 check-in counters and capacity for 43 million passengers.
Dubai International became the worlds busiest airport for international passengers in 2014, overtaking London Heathrow with 70.5 million international travellers.
