King Abdulaziz Intl
A Journey Through Time
1981 — 2023
King Abdulaziz International Airport opened in 1981, featuring the iconic Hajj Terminal — a massive tent-like structure designed by SOM to shelter 80,000 pilgrims during the annual Hajj season.
Terminal 1 was completely rebuilt by Saudi Arabia's GACA, opening a stunning new facility designed by Foster + Partners with a capacity of 30 million passengers per year.
Jeddah Airport became a key gateway for Vision 2030 tourism initiatives, with Saudia and Flynas expanding routes to serve the growing number of visitors to Makkah, Madinah, and the Red Sea coast.
