Regular passenger air traffic at Linz began in 1956.

Construction of a passenger terminal started in 1972, and the building was officially opened in 1976.

2010
On 2 June 2010 a Lufthansa Airbus A380-800 landed at Linz, arriving from Vienna and leaving again for Munich.
2019
In 2019 the operator dropped the alternative name Blue Danube Airport Linz and officially renamed itself Linz Airport.
