El Prat
A Journey Through Time
1918 — 2019
Barcelona's El Prat airport was established in 1918 as an aviation school. Its first commercial flight was a Latécoère service to Toulouse in 1920, pioneering the Europe–South America airmail route.
Terminal 1, designed by Ricardo Bofill, opened in June 2009. The massive glass-and-steel structure doubled the airport's capacity and features a spectacular skylit central atrium.
Barcelona El Prat handled over 52 million passengers in 2019, making it Spain's second-busiest airport and a major base for Vueling and Ryanair low-cost operations.
