1940s
1948

McCarran Field opened for commercial service in 1948, named after Senator Pat McCarran. It sat on desert land south of the Las Vegas Strip, handling just a handful of flights daily.

1980s
1985

Terminal 1 underwent a $785 million expansion in the 1980s to accommodate the explosive growth of Las Vegas tourism, adding the D Gates concourse.

2020s
2021

The airport was renamed Harry Reid International Airport in December 2021 in honour of the late Senator Harry Reid, replacing the McCarran name after 80 years.
