Cairo Intl
A Journey Through Time
1945 — 2009
Cairo International Airport was established in 1945 at Heliopolis, on the site of a former military air base used by the British during World War II.
The airport became the hub for EgyptAir (formerly United Arab Airlines), connecting Africa to Europe and Asia. Cairo's geographic position made it a natural stopover for intercontinental routes.
Terminal 3 opened in April 2009, designed by the Dutch firm NACO, tripling the airport's international capacity and featuring traditional Egyptian architectural motifs in a modern design.
