Bole Intl
A Journey Through Time
1962 — 2019
Bole International Airport was established in 1962 as the home base of Ethiopian Airlines, which had been founded in 1945 with the assistance of TWA. The airport grew alongside the airline.
Ethiopian Airlines adopted a hub strategy called "Vision 2025," transforming Bole into Africa's premier connecting hub by offering more intra-African destinations than any other carrier.
A new terminal opened in January 2019, designed by JDAW and built with Chinese investment, increasing capacity to 22 million passengers. Bole became the busiest airport in East Africa.
