1934

Warsaw Okęcie Airport opened in 1934 as a modest civil airfield on the southern outskirts of the Polish capital, replacing the earlier Mokotów airfield.

1960s
1969

A new international terminal opened in 1969, and the airport was renamed Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport in 2001 in honour of Poland's most famous composer, who was born near Warsaw.

2010s
2015

Chopin Airport became the largest airport in Central and Eastern Europe (excluding Russia) by passenger numbers, handling over 18 million passengers as LOT Polish Airlines expanded its hub operations.
