A Journey Through Time
1944 — 2008
After US Army engineers carried out repairs, the Sandweiler airfield opened on 18 September 1944 as Advanced Landing Ground A-97.
The Sandweiler airfield, used by US forces from late 1944, was handed back to Luxembourgish control on 15 August 1945.
A new terminal building was completed in 1975. It stayed the airport's only passenger terminal for about 30 years, until Terminal B opened in 2004.
Terminal B opened in 2004, ending three decades in which the 1975 building had been the only passenger terminal at Luxembourg.
Construction of the new Terminal A started in 2005, and the building was inaugurated in May 2008, four years after Terminal B had opened.
