Dublin Intl
A Journey Through Time
1940 — 2010
Dublin Airport opened on 19 January 1940 at Collinstown, north of Dublin. Despite Ireland's neutrality in World War II, the airport played a secret role in Allied wartime aviation logistics.
Dublin became a pioneer in airport duty-free shopping — the concept was actually invented at Shannon Airport in 1947, and Dublin followed suit, making Irish airports synonymous with duty-free retail.
Terminal 2 opened in November 2010, designed by Pascall + Watson. Dublin Airport became a major transatlantic gateway with US Preclearance facilities, the only European airport offering this service.
