Biggin Hill
A Journey Through Time
1917 — 1994
On 13 February 1917 the Royal Flying Corps moved to Biggin Hill and made it part of the London Air Defence Area.
As a front line fighter station in the Battle of Britain, Biggin Hill was attacked twelve times between August 1940 and January 1941.
In 1958 Biggin Hill stopped being an operational RAF station and became the Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre.
The London Borough of Bromley completed its purchase of the airfield in 1974, bringing the former RAF station into local authority ownership.
In May 1994 the airport was leased to Biggin Hill Airport Limited for 125 years, handing day to day operation to a private company.
