Felix Houphouet Boigny Intl
A Journey Through Time
1951 — 2020
Abidjan Airport was established in 1951 during the French colonial era at Port-Bouët. It was later renamed after Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Côte d'Ivoire's founding president.
Air Afrique, the pan-African airline headquartered in Abidjan, used the airport as its primary hub connecting francophone West Africa to Paris and beyond until the airline's collapse in 2002.
A major terminal modernisation programme was completed, and Abidjan reclaimed its position as the busiest airport in francophone West Africa with over 2.5 million passengers annually.
