Malton Airport opened in 1939 as a small municipal airfield northwest of Toronto. During World War II, it served as a training base for the Royal Canadian Air Force.

1980s
1984

Terminal 1 was demolished and replaced by a new Terminal 1 designed by Moshe Safdie and completed in 2004 with an innovative pier-based layout and natural light throughout.

2000s
2004

Toronto Pearson became Canada's busiest airport and the second-busiest international airport in North America, serving as the primary hub for Air Canada.
